Smoke Detectors

Hardwired Smoke Detectors can be installed in your home and connected into your Security Alarm System from as little as $249 each.

Photoelectric Smoke Detectors are recommended by the NZ Fire Service as these have a sensing chamber which uses a beam of light and a light sensor. Smoke particles entering the chamber change the amount of light which reaches the sensor.  The alarm sounds when the smoke density reaches a preset level.

Latest News - More burglaries reported to police after killing

Reported in Christchurch Press, Friday March 5, 2010

South Christchurch householders are reporting more suspected burglaries since a woman was killed in her home.

Sergeant Lachy Garrick, of Christchurch South Police, believed personal security was fresh in people's minds after Gaynor White, 62, was killed in Huntsbury on February 19.

"I guess people have had security rammed down their throats more than what they would otherwise, which is good," he said.

"A lot of people become complacent, unfortunately, and the uptake of residential alarms being fitted is lower than we would like."

Christchurch South averaged 150 burglaries a month, but there had been 'spikes and dips' since the start of the year.

On Tuesday, a burglar was disturbed at a Hillmorton house by the homeowner.  "Had they had an alarm, the burglars probably would have shot the gap before the owner came home or they wouldn't have even gone in knowing there was an alarm there waiting to go screech," Garrick said.
